ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
Join Jillian Joy for an intimate afternoon of (re)connecting with the Filipino culture through this creative workshop exploring the iconic butterfly sleeves of the terno, otherwise known as the national dress of the Philippines!
WHAT TO EXPECT…
We’ll explore the history & evolutiuon of the terno, practice our hand stitching on a mini muslin sleeve, and sew a final silk sleeve that you’ll be able to take home framed. The intermediate session additionally goes over pattern drafting your own sleeve as well as discussions on fabric selection and construction applications. This hands-on session offers a unique cultural experience that blends Filipino history and fashion, equipping you with the sewing foundations to continue working with the butterfly sleeve beyond the workshop!
Don’t think you’ll use the additional sewing applications after the workshop? Check out our Beginner Session happening earlier in the day!
No sewing experience? no problem!
All skill levels are welcome! While prior sewing experience can be helpful, the workshop focuses on simple hand-stitching techniques, with each step carefully taught and demonstrated. The small group setting also allows Jillian to provide personalized guidance and one-on-one support throughout the session.
the finer details…
The workshop will be hosted and facilitated by Jillian Joy herself!
This is an in person workshop that will last up to 3 hours
The session will take place at our very own studio, where we produce all of our everyday and bridal ternos!
All materials will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own notebook and pen if you’d like to take notes
The recommended minimum age to attend is 15 years
*Previous versions of our workshop included a larger scale silk organza sleeve, we've thoughtfully scaled the final project down to a mini silk organza sleeve to make the experience more accessible, affordable, and manageable within the time frame
